We took a bus south from Krakow to Zakopane, close to the Slovakia border. Zakopane is a small town in the Tatra Mountains, which are part of the Carpathian range. We enjoyed 5 inches of snow (during an unusually warm winter) and lots and lots of smoked sheep cheese. Many thanks to Larry Day for suggesting we visit Zakopane!

Beautiful ornamental gifts made from dyed rye.
Oscypek! This is a special smoked sheep cheese that is unique to this region of Poland. The vendors grill the small cheese, shown in front, and put a dollop of cranberry chutney on top. DELICIOUS.
We bought some cheese and cranberry sauce from the woman pictured below. She makes sheep, goat, and cow cheese. I tried to talk to her as best I could about the process. Obviously, I'm excited..
We took a tram up the mountain to get some nice views of the town.
