In mid-March, I stayed at a farm south of Aberdeen. This is an high-production area, with many acres of arable land and all types of livestock. They raise 100 beef cattle, mostly Simmentals, and 300 Blackface sheep.
Sorting sheep for market, clipping cattle for market. All cattle must be clipped and excess manure removed before leaving the farm.
Turnips at the turnip factory down the road. We picked up 2 ton to feed the sheep!
The neighboring dairy farm. They milk 350 with robots and calves are fed in an automatic system.
I was able to attend a meeting put on by SAC (Scottish Agriculture Consulting). The topic was pre-lambing management nutrition and health issues.
